Aspiration is the key to unlocking potential. At Birley Spa, we plan every day, lesson and opportunity with the ambition of enabling our children to develop aspiration – one of our key school values.

For our children to understand the vital role that they will play in their community and the world around them as young people and adults, we held an Aspire Day, in which parents, members of the local community and even the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, came to share their experiences of jobs and careers which give back to the community as well as how they’ve applied the values, skills and knowledge they learned at school in “real life”.

The EYFS children experienced a hands-on role play day where they got to be hairdressers, bakers, shop assistants, builders and much more through a workshop provided by Little City Sheffield. From Year 1 to 6, the children had talks from a mechanic, firefighter, nurse, chef, pensions advisor, teacher, politician, a charity fundraiser and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield!

The children couldn’t believe the range of skills and attributes our wonderful parents have – it was great for them to consider ways in which they can grow up to be role models in the community too!
